“They have been trying to throw whatever they can up against the wall to see what sticks,” he said, “and this is their latest version.” ... But in a series of three events on Wednesday, McCain and his running-mate, Sarah Palin, continued to argue that their opponent is hiding his real agenda. As evidence of the Democratic nominee’s plans, McCain cited a section of Obama’s second book, “The Audacity of Hope,” at a morning event in Goffstown, N.H. “He writes of, quote, the need for ‘labor laws and tax laws that restore some balance to the distribution of the nation’s wealth.’ He’s talked elsewhere about how, in our day, ‘the distribution of wealth is even more skewed, and levels of inequity are now higher,’” he told the crowd of roughly 2,000.
“Whatever the right word is for that way of thinking,”
McCain said. A voice from the crowd shouted an answer:
“Socialism!” Obama: "Righteous wind at our backs"

As CBS 2's Joanie Lum and Political Editor Mike Flannery report, tens of thousands are expected to gather before the stage on election night. One way or another, that huge crowd will witness history. The event would require massive security, but the Obama campaign promises that Chicago taxpayers will not have to foot the bill for police, fire and medical services that would be required for election night...

TPM has the Wisconsin version (.wav): "I live in Green Bay and, like you, I've been getting sleazy phone calls and mail from John McCain and his supporters viciously -- and falsely -- attacking Barack Obama," says the caller. "I used to support John McCain because he honorably served our country -- but this year he's running a dishonorable campaign. We know McCain will continue many of Bush's policies, and now he's using George Bush's divisive tactics. In fact, he hired the Bush strategists whose attacks even McCain once called hateful."
