An Obama economic panic?

MARKETS FEAR HIS POLICIES

...while the polls are reflecting Obama's steady hand, the markets haven't. In fact, they're getting worse by the day as Obama's lead widens.

Most investors know the devil is in the details - and the details of Obama's economic plans are anything but reassuring.

...Just how low can the markets and economy go?

It could be a lot lower - it all depends on the policies of the next president.

And, as it looks increasingly likely that Obama will be that man, the markets are casting a vote of "no confidence."

Could polls be wrong about support for Obama?

The question — or concern, for anxious Democrats — comes down to this: Are significant numbers of white voters lying to pollsters about their intention to vote for Obama?

The issue has been debated for decades in elections featuring black candidates. In the political lexicon, it's become known as the "Bradley effect" after Tom Bradley, the former African-American mayor of Los Angeles who narrowly lost the 1982 California governor's race to Republican George Deukmejian despite pre-election polls showing him ahead by large margins...

30% of ACORN's voter registrations were faulty

On Oct. 6, the community organizing group Acorn and an affiliated charity called Project Vote announced with jubilation that they had registered 1.3 million new voters. But it turns out the claim was a wild exaggeration, and the real number of newly registered voters nationwide is closer to 450,000...

... “We were wondering how many were Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse,” said Danny Diaz, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee. “The group is really tainted, and any work they do is suspect.”

Joe The Plumber 'scared for America'
if Obama elected President

“When I was face to face with him, my honest first impression was that I expected something more. I had heard so much about ‘his presence’ in the media that I was surprised to find that he seemed very average,” Mr. Wurzelbacher wrote in a live online chat on The Washington Times Web site. “My gut feeling as he answered my questions? I was scared for America,” he wrote in response to a reader who asked “When you were face to face with Obama, what were you thinking and how did it feel?”

Barack Obama & Joe Biden... today's headlines with excerpts'

Obama's victory plan: economic focus, TV ad finale

Obama's overflowing war chest will be a key factor in the final campaign push.

Since launching his campaign in early 2007 through September, Obama had taken in $605 million. His fundraising will soon surpass the $650 million total spent by President Bush and Democrat John Kerry combined in 2004.

The haul in contributions has enabled the Obama campaign to do "everything we wanted to do," says chief strategist David Axelrod.

Obama visits ailing grandmother in Hawaii

Barack Obama spent Friday in Honolulu tending to his ailing grandmother, a "cornerstone" of his life who he fears may not live to see him potentially make history.

"She's gravely ill," Obama told ABC News. "We weren't sure, and I'm still not sure whether she makes it to Election Day. Now we're all praying, and we hopes she does."

Madelyn Lee Payne Dunham is set to turn 86 Sunday.

Michelle Obama revs up in the home stretch

On Friday, she drew overflow crowds of 2,000 people in Columbus and here while standing in for her husband as he visited his ailing grandmother in Hawaii. Speaking without notes, she traded her favored fireside voice for a more fiery one, calling out to people to vote early, if not often.

"Races are lost on thousands of votes, and there are hundreds of thousands of people who are registered who will not vote," Obama said. "Don't wait until Election Day when it's snowing. Don't wait until Election Day when you might be sick. Don't wait until Election Day when your tire might be flat. You might not have gas then. Vote now."
