Palin aide: Obama backers politicizing Alaska investigation

Former Palin Press Secretary Meg Stapleton told reporters in Anchorage that the power probe has been "hijacked" by "Obama operatives" for the Democratic presidential nominee -- namely, Alaska state Sen. Hollis French, the Democratic lawmaker managing the investigation and an Obama supporter. French has denied working on behalf of the Obama campaign.

Stapleton said Palin's attorneys have turned over to the board e-mails that contain "new information that exonerates Palin and proves Monegan's egregious insubordination."

The e-mails, which were released to reporters, show that Palin reported to Monegan that Wooten threatened her father.

McCain courts Florida Hispanics, hits Obama on immigration

McCain spearheaded a bill in 2006 -- reviled by the right wing of his own party -- that would have allowed illegal immigrants to earn citizenship. Obama supported the overall goal but backed controversial amendments that would have limited a guest worker program.

''The fact is that Sen. Obama proposed amendments that would have killed the legislation. I fought for it,'' McCain told more than 350 people at a town hall meeting.

Palin outlines her VP role

"My mission is going to be energy security and government reform," Palin said at a campaign rally at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. "It's going to be helping families who have special needs, and I will push for innovative cures to diseases."

... Palin said if she and McCain were elected, they would push for an "all-of-the-above" energy plan to include additional oil and natural gas drilling. Palin said, as governor of Alaska, she helps to oversee 20 percent of America's domestic oil and gas supply. But she also referenced the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, just down the road from the Fairgrounds, saying that she and McCain would work to advance renewable energy technology.

She also cited her record as Alaska governor in touting her reform credentials, saying she took on entrenched lobbying interests and an "old-boy's network" at the Capitol.

"In Alaska, we put the state checkbook online so that everybody can see where there money went," she said, as the crowd roared in approval.

"It's going to be a whole shift in the way Washington does business," she added later. "It's going to be all about reform."

Finally, Palin, whose infant son, Trig, has Down syndrome, said she would work to help families with special-needs children.

Palin wows 'em in Denver

An energized crowd of nearly 5,000 gave a folk hero's welcome today to a woman they say is extraordinary in ordinary ways — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Obama sets up teleprompter - in middle of rodeo ring!

The Democratic presidential nominee has never tried to hide the fact he delivers speeches off the device, though normally he doesn't use one at standard campaign rallies and town hall events.

But the Illinois senator used a teleprompter at both his Colorado events Monday — making for a particularly peculiar scene in Pueblo, where the prompter was set up in the middle of what is normally a rodeo ring.

Hillary stumps for Obama in Ohio, mostly ignores Palin

The closest Clinton came to criticizing Palin: "I want to rephrase slightly something I said at the Denver convention. If you look at everything that is going on in the world, and what's at stake in this election, no way, no how, no McCain and no Palin."

Obama boom economy: record bank in Bev hills, $28,500 a plate!

[Matt Drudge:] Yesterday, Obama declared how we are in "the most serious financial crisis since the Great Depression."

Today he will host a dinner in Beverly Hills -- costing attendees $28,500 dollars each!

Hundreds of high rollers, including some of the biggest executives in film, television and music, will munch gourmet chow and hang out with the candidate.

Streisand will then sing at the five-star Beverly Wilshire, no doubt reviving the Depression-era standard "Happy Days Are Here Again" with new urgency.

Obama is set to break a single-day fundraising record of $9 million.
