excerpts from the Iowa Daily Report

April 2003

...The party’s website said the usual suspects – Kerry, Lieberman, Edwards, Gephardt, Dean – have agreed to participate in the debate and “no commitments” have been received from Sharpton or Graham. No word on website about Moseley Braun, Kucinich, Hart  -- or Hillary or Biden or CNN war commentator Clark. State convention originally set for Saturday morning has been moved to afternoon – and Friday night Jackson-Jefferson Day event will feature LA Sen. Landrieu as keynoter. (4/8/2003)

Vilsack’s Big Four (or possibly Big Five) analysis is reflected in latest New Hampshire survey showing Kerry at 24% with Dean running at 19%. The poll analysis by the American Research Group – for the survey conducted 4/15-4/17 – said Kerry maintained his lead while Dean has “lost some of his pre-war momentum from a month ago.” Undecided voters (19%) same as Dean, while Gephardt third with 15% and Lieberman at 13%. That’s the Big Four in NH. The bad news for the rest of the field: Three – including Edwards along with non-candidates (so far) Biden and Wesley Clark – get 2%. The 1% candidates include Graham, Kucinich, Moseley Braun and aspiring wannabe Hart. Meanwhile, Sharpton maintained an irrefutable record in the NH American Research Group poll – a perfect 0% for the fourth monthly survey in a row. (4/19/2003)

Until Hart, Hillary, Clark or somebody else comes along to join the Wannabe Nine, Harkin has finalized the schedule for thecandidate forums” he is hosting around IA during the coming months. Harkin outlined the plans for the first six candidates – and forums – earlier, but has now found dates and locations for all nine.  Edwards was first to appear at the Bush-bashing orgy earlier this month and Dean’s up next – 5/18 in Davenport. AP’s Mike Glover reports the rest: Graham 6/7 in Council Bluffs; Kerry 6/22 Mason City; Gephardt 7/13 Dubuque; Kucinich 7/27 Ottumwa; Moseley Braun 8/3 Waterloo; Sharpton 8/5 Sioux City; and Lieberman 9/21 Cedar Rapids.(4/24/2003)
