“Sen.
HILLARY Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) now sits on the Senate Armed
Services Committee, a powerful seat that will put her in a
position to question the Bush administration’s war plans and
foreign policy…Sen. Clinton is the first senator from New
York to sit on the Armed Services Committee, the New York Port
reported.” (CNSNews.com, www.cnsnews.com,
1/15)
“A prominent
conservative operative in Washington, fearing the prospect of
HILLARY Clinton on the Democratic ticket” in 2004 as the
vice president candidate is urging Senate Republicans not to
co-sign letters, co-sponsor legislation or get photographed
with her. (Columnist Robert Novak, TownHall.com, 1/18)
“Battle
for New York. President Bush may have negated any attempts
by HILLARY to run for President next year with his decision to
hold the 2004 Republican convention in New York. This move
puts Democrats on the defensive because it means the GOP will
really try to win the state for the first time since 1984, and
which would make it impossible for any Democrat to beat
him…After all, is Republicans make it in New York, they can
make it anywhere. In retrospect, Democrats in general and
HILLARY in particular may end up regretting their party’s
decision to hold their 2004 convention in Ted Kennedy’s
Boston, a symbol of their liberal base.” (Hillary Watch,
Human Events, 1/20)
“Sen.
HILLARY Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat, has raised her
profile, emerging this year as a key player in helping her
party regain control of Congress and the White House. Mrs.
Clinton has been called the Democrats’ new quarterback as
they play from behind to win back power in Washington.” (www.hillpac.com,
reprinted from The Washington Times, 1/20)
The problem the
Dems have “to contend with is that the
single most formidable Democrat could blow them away
overnight. That candidate is, of course, Sen. HILLARY Rodham
Clinton (N. Y.), and if I were a betting man, I would bet that
before it’s over she’ll do just that.” David Keene,
chairman of the American Conservative Union, went on to add
that HILLARY “isn’t getting any younger and if one of the
younger candidates wins this year and then defeats Bush, she
may never get a shot at the big prize.” (The Hill, 1/22)
Sen.
HILLARY Rodham Clinton was only making a phone call to a
friend when she
spoke to Martha Stewart, according to the senator’s
spokeswoman. Karen Dunn, indicating the conversation was
brief, said Clinton “made a phone call to a friend and has
not commented on the ongoing investigation.” (AP, 1/27)
