Sept. 2, 2004...
Georgia Democrat Senator Zell Miller pitches a perfect game at the Republican Convention -- winning extra innings as well with CNN and MSNBC'S Hardball with Chris Matthews.
Zell's take no prisoners speech before the GOP convention delegates drew wild cheers from the crowd as he blasted Kerry's senate record:

“Twenty years of votes can tell you much more about a man than twenty weeks of campaign rhetoric.”

“Campaign talk tells people who you want them to think you are. How you vote tells people who you really are deep inside.”
-
“Senator Kerry has made it clear that he would use military force only if approved by the United Nations.”
-
“Kerry would let Paris decide when America needs defending. I want Bush to decide.”
Zell's speech was followed by interviews by CNN and MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, which took a decidedly different turn than Matthews was expecting. Here are the excertps:
- "Look at his record. A man's record is what he is"
- "I didn't question their patriotism, I question their judgment"
- "That was a metaphor, do you know what a metaphor is?"
- "Get out of may face. If you're going to ask a question you let me answer."
- "I wish we lived in the day that I could challenge you to a duel."
- "You are not going to do to me what you did to that young lady the other day, browbeating her to death."
- "Are you going to shut up after you ask the question?"
Zell even showed up on Imus this morning. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

ZELL: "I had just been holding one for Chris Matthews since I saw him browbeat (columnist) Michelle Malkin on his show that night."

ZELL: "He wouldn't let that little 5' 2, 95 pound girl say a word and I just said to myself if he ever gets into my face like that--I'm gonna pop him.'"

ZELL: "We might need to have Chris Matthews go around with John Kerry and furnish some wind for his surfing. 'I saw he was surfing the other day and the wind wasnt blowing."

IMUS: "Speaking of getting into Senator Kerry's face, they've gotten in Senator Kerry's face and they have challenged his manhood . He has got to respond this morning or just go back to Massachusetts and put on a pair of panties and fold his tent."
