                               QUOTABLES:
"If John Kerry loses the presidential election, 'Unfit for Command,'
by John E. O'Neill and Jerome R. Corsi, will go down as a chief
reason. The book - a sort of companion piece to the political attack
ads placed by O'Neill's group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth - is a
furious assault on Kerry's character and service in Vietnam."
          – NY Times book review of “Unfit for
          Command.”
          (10/11/2004)
“We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not
the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance”
          – John Kerry.
          (10/11/2004)
"There are two options: to fight them (terrorists) over there or to
fight them over here. I'm an over-there-kind-of-guy,"
          Ret. General Tommy Franks said.
          (10/11/2004)
"There's a lot more in (Kerry's) record that the American people are
going to hear and know about by the time it's all over,"
          said Karl Rove, Bush's chief
          political adviser.
          (10/11/2004)
"If his voting record ruled the day, Saddam Hussein would not only be
          running Iraq but Kuwait," Ret.
          General Tommy Franks said.
          (10/11/2004)
"The choice is very, very clear. We need decisive, strong,
          no-backing-down and no-equivocating leadership,"
          Ret. General Tommy Franks said.

          (10/11/2004)
"John will never send a boy or girl in a uniform anywhere in the world
because of our need and greed for oil,"
Teresa Heinz Kerry told about 1,200
supporters at the McAllen Civic Center in Texas.

          Don Imus: Bush will win
Broadcaster Don Imus tells TIME George Bush is going to win the
election. "I’m not going to vote for him, but I think he connects
better with the American people, and I think the Administration has
scared people to death. And I think people resent having John Fogerty
and Jon Bon Jovi tell them who to vote for."
Bush is "probably a decent guy, but he’s in way over his head. I think
he got gun-shy as a result of that heisting of the election in 2000. I
don’t think he ever even thought of himself as a legitimate President.
And rather than try to govern by some sort of consensus or at least
involve some other points of view, he’s tried to make up for it by
this arrogant conduct of foreign policy. By the way, it’s not like I
think Senator Kerry would be much better."

                      Iowa ground war
          The Washington Post [LINK]
reports on the critical Iowa electoral effort and the get-out-the-vote
          effort:
Although Democrats have had the better ground operation, Republicans
believe they have resources to match, including 20,000 volunteers that
the Bush campaign has recruited to knock on doors and turn out the
vote on Election Day. "Without a doubt, this is the best organized
campaign I have seen in Iowa," said David Roederer, who was chief of
staff to former governor Terry E. Branstad (R) and a Bush campaign
          chairman.
Outside groups could play a decisive role in Iowa. On the Democratic
side, the state office of America Coming Together has put together its
own voter identification and turnout operation, aimed at Democrats and
independents who have voted once or not at all in the past three
statewide elections, a pool that ACT organizers estimated at 300,000
voters. "If we can get somebody who hasn't voted in the last three
elections to participate, that will make a big difference," said Jeff
          Link, Iowa chairman for ACT.
Kerry & the wealth of others
          The NY Times [LINK]
has a lengthy biography of how the wealth of others has shaped Sen.
          John Kerry.
          Swiftees shoot new ads
The Swift Boat Veterans are shooting new commercials and the
          Washington Times reports [LINK]
          on the event:
These Swiftees, at times jocular (breaking into "Row, row, row your
boat") and at other times on the verge of tears, are angry and
frustrated. Not only because they say Mr. Kerry has lied about his
service and refuses to sign the form that releases his military
records to the public, but because 30 years ago, the candidate threw
away his medals and called his fellow servicemen murderers, rapists,
          baby killers and cowards.
The weekend began with a dinner at the Key Bridge Marriott on Friday
night, attended by a wealthy backer from Texas, T. Boone Pickens.
So far, they have raised more than $13 million — more than $4 million
of which was contributed through their Internet site — and plan to
step up their assault on the Democratic presidential candidate in the
final weeks of the campaign. They raised an additional $2.5 million
over the weekend and plan to spend $5 million more by Election Day.
          Sean Penn attacks Team America
Drudge in an exclusive is offering a glimpse at Hollywood’s battling
factions, and also, a look into why Sean Penn is not a writer:
          October 6, 2004
To Trey Parker and Matt Stone,
I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous
guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting
a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you
traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and
likable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and
          silliness.
I do mind when anybody who doesn't have a child, doesn't have a child
at war, or isn't or won't be in harm's way themselves, is encouraging
that there's "no shame in not voting" "if you don't know what you're
talking about" (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing
what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are
talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It's all well to
joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage
irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment,
mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the
world. The vote matters to them. No one's ignorance, including a
couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse.
All best, and a sincere [expletive deleted] you,
          Sean Penn
P.S. Take this as a personal invitation from me to you (you can ask
Dennis Miller along for the ride as well) to escort you on a trip,
which I took last Christmas. We'll fly to Amman, Jordan and I'll ride
with you in a (?) 12 hours through the Sunni Triangle into Fallujah
and Baghdad and I'll show you around. When we return, make all the fun
          you want. |
