 QUOTABLES:

“A movement from employer-based to individually owned insurance, together with a national market for it, could have a revolutionary effect. Many lives would be improved if individuals no longer needed to fear moving or switching jobs for fear of losing their insurance.” – Wall Street Journal. (10/12/2004)

“Kerry, an opportunistic liar, initiated a political career by slandering his fellow veterans and undermining our nation’s war effort. More than any other person, he is responsible for the false image of Vietnam veterans as crazed killers.” – writes Jeffrey Epstein, Vietnam Veterans for Truth [LINK to full editorial on TheRant.us]. (10/12/2004)

"John Howard's victory [in Australia] does reflect well on President Bush's foreign policy and leadership," said Bush campaign spokesman Brian Jones. "The prime minister is one of our staunchest allies in the war against terrorism. His becoming a part of the broad coalition in Iraq proved to be more of a help than a hindrance in his own election." (10/12/2004)

“A nuisance? . . . Mosquito bites are a nuisance. Cable outages are a nuisance. Someone shooting up a school in Montana or California or Maine on behalf of the brave martyrs of Fallujah isn't a nuisance. It's war.” -- writes James Lileks. (10/12/2004)

“Does Kerry really think that if America abjured new nukes, it would appease Iran's mullahs into giving up their nuclear ambitions? This is reminiscent of the far left's view of the Cold War, which is that America was fundamentally the problem, and if it disarmed, the Soviets could be counted on to be nice. Had such an approach prevailed, the Cold War might still be going on today.” -- writes James Taranto. (10/12/2004)

Moore to air Fahrenheit 9-11

The Hollywood news magazine, "Variety," said that In Demand, the largest pay-per-view distributor in the U.S., was planning to air "Fahrenheit" at 8 p.m. on election eve - just hours before the polls open all across America.

Michael Moore -- who is currently on his "Slacker Tour" to get college students to vote--  has a problem in making this a reality. Columbia TriStar, which released the "Fahrenheit" DVD last week, has the right to block any small-screen broadcast while the DVD is in distribution.

Reports are that Moore is going ahead anyway.

Yesterday’s exchange

Yesterday, Sen. John Kerry claimed that President Bush was running up gas prices so that his friends, big oil, could make more money. Bush for his part jumped on Kerry’s comment of making terrorism a nuisance.

"Our goal is not to reduce terror to some acceptable level of nuisance," Bush said. "Our goal is to defeat terror by staying on the offensive, destroying terrorist networks and spreading freedom and liberty around the world."

"Last week, gas prices hit a record $53 a barrel and one big reason is because of this president's gross mismanagement of the war in Iraq," Kerry said.

Edwards v meth

Sen. John Edwards in a conference call with Midwest reporters said that the Kerry administration would do more to stop methamphetamine in rural America. However, it seems that the Kerry record doesn’t support the call for a crack down on meth.

Brian Jones, a spokesman for the Bush campaign, responded by saying that Mr. Kerry in 1999 had voted against legislation that would increase penalties for manufacturing drugs, including methamphetamines. Mr. Jones said the use of amphetamines, including methamphetamine, had declined among young people nationwide by 17 percent over the last year.

Let her talk!!

The Washington Times reports [LINK] on the fact that a Teresa Heinz Kerry who follows the campaign script disappoints the supporters who come out to hear her:

After one event, disappointed supporters were heard saying, "Where was the Teresa spitfire?"

"Sometimes she puts her foot in her mouth, but that's OK — she reminds me of people I know," Mike Ceoffe, a 39-year-old father of four, said at an event featuring Mrs. Kerry at Local 249 Teamsters Temple in Pittsburgh. "Well, the upper-crust people I know. She ain't driving a '72 Chevy Impala."

Bishops against Kerry

The NY Times reports [LINK] on how a group of influential Catholic Bishops are campaigning against Sen. John Kerry, who is a catholic. Their fear is that a Catholic who supports abortion and stem cell research would be in the White House undermining Catholic doctrine:

Galvanized by battles against same-sex marriage and stem cell research and alarmed at the prospect of a President Kerry - who is Catholic but supports abortion rights - these bishops and like-minded Catholic groups are blanketing churches with guides identifying abortion, gay marriage and the stem cell debate as among a handful of "non-negotiable issues."

To the dismay of liberal Catholics and some other bishops, traditional church concerns about the death penalty or war are often not mentioned.

Soros wants America's guns

There is a growing concern among gun owners and the NRA in particular that a Kerry Presidency could see a backdoor effort to deny Americans the right to bear arms. The source of the problem is none other than George Soros. He is working through the U.N. to negotiate a treaty that will ban private ownership of firearms on a worldwide basis, said Wayne LaPierre, National Rifle Association spokesman.

Addressing the annual SAFE: Right to Carry Conference last Sunday in New York, LaPierre warned, "The U.N. is, I believe, the major threat that we're going to be dealing with."

Under the banner of IANSA - the International Action Network on Small Arms - Soros operative Rebecca Peters is working to capitalize on the success of her gun ban campaign in Australia, where firearms possession is now illegal and crime is going through the roof.

LaPierre explained that under the umbrella of the United Nations, there are now more than 500 of these organizations working day and night trying to ban civilian ownership or firearms.

Kerry’s allies are enemies

The Washington Times reports [LINK] on how the allies that Sen. John Kerry wants to rely on in the war on terrorism supported giving weapons and missile technology to Saddam Hussein for bribes. The missile technology came from China. The Chinese obtained their missile technology as a result of a clouded incident involving an American company and contributions to Bill Clinton:

China illegally supplied Saddam Hussein's regime with missile technology and other weaponry and was a major beneficiary of the U.N. oil-for-food program, according to a CIA report.

The report by the Iraq Survey Group also stated that China, along with France and Russia, was bribed by Saddam with oil sales and weapons deals into working to end U.N. sanctions.

Union thugs

Below is the text of a letter sent by Bush-Cheney '04 Campaign Chairman Governor Marc Racicot to AFL-CIO President John Sweeney via fax at 10:15 a.m. today. The letter asks Sweeney to put an end to protest activities that have led to injuries, property damage, vandalism and voter intimidation at Bush-Cheney '04 and Republican Party offices around the country.

Bush-Cheney '04 has created a hotline for victims of voter intimidation to report what happened. The hotline, 1-888-303-7125, will begin operation at 11:00 a.m. today.

Letter To AFL-CIO President John Sweeney

Mr. John Sweeney
President
AFL-CIO
815 16th Street, N.W.
Washington, DC 20006
October 11, 2004

Dear Mr. Sweeney:

Over the past several weeks, acts of violence and vandalism have occurred at Republican and Bush-Cheney campaign headquarters across the country. In addition to the injuries, property damage and disruption associated with these acts, these events have created a threatening and intimidating atmosphere abhorrent to our democratic process.

On October 5th, according to news reports, witnesses, police reports and admissions of your members, the AFL-CIO, as part of a national strategy, protested at more than a dozen of our campaign and party headquarters across the country. In many locations, the protestors attempted to enter, or entered, campaign or party facilities. As one protestor said, "Actually, we're storming into an office." In Orlando, Florida, injuries and damage were sustained. Protestors forced their way into the facility, fracturing the arm of one staffer, and vandalized the office. In Michigan, protestors entered a headquarters and engaged in activities apparently intended to disrupt volunteers trying to make phone calls.

Protests by your organization come on the heels of several other incidents at Bush-Cheney '04 offices around the country, including a break-in at our Seattle office where laptop computers were stolen from the Washington State Bush-Cheney ’04 executive director and the state Republican Party 72-hour director. Just last night in Canton, Ohio, a Bush-Cheney '04 staffer was forced to lock herself in an office while another break-in was in progress. The facility was seriously damaged and property was stolen. Additionally, gun shots have been fired into Bush-Cheney '04 offices in West Virginia, Florida and Tennessee, windows broken in West Virginia and campaign staffers threatened. In Wisconsin, a supporter of the President had a swastika burned into his front yard simply because he had a Bush-Cheney '04 lawn sign. We urge your support in helping us ensure the safety of all individuals working on our campaign and others as we are making every effort to secure the safety of all participants in the political process.

I hope you will put an end to protest activities that have led to injuries, property damage, vandalism and voter intimidation. We will hold you and your organization accountable for the actions of your members and urge you to immediately discontinue any coordinated protest efforts that result in damage to our facilities, or injury to people who may hold different political views than your members, but who share an equal right to be involved in the political process without suffering violence, intimidation and threats.

Respectfully,

Gov. Marc Racicot, Bush-Cheney '04 Campaign Chairman

John Kerry: War Hero Extraordinaire

by Jeffrey Epstein

Since sealing his bid for the democratic nomination, John Kerry’s opponents, namely 254 of his fellow Swift Boat veterans, successfully focused public attention on the various inconsistencies surrounding his military record and “contrived” war hero status. Simultaneously, a majority of Vietnam veterans and their supporters have taken great exception to his post-service protesting activities.

Kerry, an opportunistic liar, initiated a political career by slandering his fellow veterans and undermining our nation’s war effort. More than any other person, he is responsible for the false image of Vietnam veterans as crazed killers. During last week’s presidential debate, Senator Kerry unequivocally stated, “And it reminds me that it is vital for us not to confuse the war, ever, with the warriors” – a principle that he should know better than most for he was the one who personally profited from bearing false witness against his “brothers-in-arms”. Indisputably, Kerry’s libelous testimony encouraged the enemy to refortify which contributed to the growing list of American casualties.

Kerry met with Communist enemy agents in Paris, while on inactive military status, and returned to advocate their terms of disengagement before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. An action considered, by most, to be treasonous during a time of war. The resulting unilateral withdrawal from Vietnam triggered a bloodbath that left millions of innocent Southeast Asians dead in its wake.

The Senator from Massachusetts continues to walk in the same shoes he chose to wear some 33 years ago. For political posturing, he and his misguided supporters continue to undermine our war efforts in Iraq. They once again provide aid and comfort to an enemy that is bolstered by their rhetoric, encouraged by their words to take American lives, any American lives. No doubt, Kerry lacks the support of our military with large numbers of servicemen awaiting November’s election results prior to re-enlisting.

As our most liberal Senator, John Kerry voted against the majority of the weapon systems that have been successfully deployed over the past twenty years. Even more disturbing and much to the benefit of our enemies, he voiced opposition to bunker-busting weapon technology during the recent presidential debate. This strategic nuclear weapon would clearly serve as one of our greatest deterrents against first strikes from non-suicidal foes.

Electing Kerry to the presidency is equivalent to leaving the proverbial fox in charge of the henhouse. He is unfit to be Commander in Chief and lacks the moral clarity and judgment to protect our security interests. The United States is in the midst of fighting a global war on terror that we cannot afford to lose. Everything is as risk and now is not the time for negotiation and compromise. Nor is it the time to speculate on the well-being of future generations. Our children deserve better than to be protected by a President who advocates the subordination of pre-emptive self-defense to gaining the approval from a corrupt bureaucratic “global” authority. Only John Kerry and the most naïve, amongst us, believe that countries like Libya, Syria, Germany, and France would approve of such a request to launch a preemptive strike.

Despite his nuanced oratory skills and enhanced cosmetic appeal, actions speak louder than words. Kerry’s behavior and voting record have evidenced poor character and judgment throughout his entire political career. His inaccurate labeling of a “quagmire” in Iraq better depicts the state of condition in which our enemies have found themselves. President Bush’s strategy of centralizing the war on terror, by drawing Islamic militants to Iraq for final processing, has severely weakened our enemy’s global capabilities and proved to be an operational success.

The DNC would like us to believe that Kerry’s war hero status is beyond question. That may be the case for our enemies who continue to honor him today. We simply cannot afford to provide him access to the reins of a nation to which he has done so much harm.

WSJ: Healthcare showdown

...Most Republicans avoid health care, but Mr. Bush sees that the Democratic vision is headed for a win by default, and so his campaign is making a serious effort to revive market incentives in health care.

At the center of his program are the Health Savings Accounts created by last year's Medicare bill. HSAs marry real insurance (i.e., coverage for high and unpredictable costs) with contributions to a savings account that can be "rolled over" from year to year.... [I]ndividuals, not insurance companies, "ration" most of their own health care, and young people get a chance to save tax-free for the higher medical bills that kick in later in life.

Mr. Bush is now pushing a couple of proposals to supercharge HSAs.... [P]ut individually purchased and employer provided insurance on a more equal tax footing by making insurance premiums fully tax deductible. And since a number of states regulate their insurance markets so heavily as to prevent the sale of high-deductible policies, Mr. Bush wants to take the long overdue step of creating a national market for coverage.... [I]t is crazy to block individuals from buying insurance policies across state lines wherever they can get the best deal.

A movement from employer-based to individually owned insurance, together with a national market for it, could have a revolutionary effect. Many lives would be improved if individuals no longer needed to fear moving or switching jobs for fear of losing their insurance. And an enormous drag on the efficient allocation of resources in the overall economy would be removed.

Americans are being offered a real choice of health care visions this November. We believe Mr. Kerry's leads inevitably toward the kind of low-innovation, low-quality government systems found in Europe and Canada. Mr. Bush's, meanwhile, would make health insurance more portable and flexible....

Kerry first gay president?

Political pundits are beginning to make the statement that Sen. John Kerry could be known as the first Gay President in the same way that President Bill Clinton is known as the first Black President given Clinton's positions on the issues.

Sen. John Kerry has a 100% rating from the homosexual advocacy group, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), since 1995 in recognition of his support for the pro-gay agenda.

Despite his stated opposition to gay marriage, Kerry and his running mate, Sen. John Edwards (D-NC), who also boasts a 100% rating from the HRC, can expect to receive a high percentage of the gay vote, estimated to be around 4 million. Kerry voted against the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996 and both candidates oppose the constitutional amendment to protect marriage legislation supported by President Bush.

Kerry: Miracle Healer

DrudgeReport.com is reporting the following statement of John Edwards, spoken while campaigning in Newton, Iowa:

“We will stop juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other debilitating diseases... When John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.' Edwards made the unprecedented campaign promises during 30-minute speech at Newton High School gym in Newton, Iowa.
