Russia confirms Iraq terrorism
The Associated Press is reporting that Russian President Vladimir Putin
warned America about Saddam Hussein’s intentions to carry out terrorist acts
in the United States:
"After the events of September 11, 2001, and before the start of the
military operation in Iraq, Russian special services several times received
such information and passed it on to their American colleagues," Putin said.
This news comes after President Bush insisted that Iraq President Saddam
Hussein did have a relationship with al Quaeda.
"The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and
Saddam and al Qaeda is because there was a relationship between Iraq and al
Qaeda," Bush said.
Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee John Kerry’s response -- prior to
the revelation by Putin that Iraq was planning attacks on American soil --
was, "What will not go away is the impact of the loss of moral authority of
the United States in the world because of what's happened in the prisons in
Iraq and because of the abuses that we've seen and the failure of this
president to show that he can lead our country with the truth."
Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said Kerry "has constantly displayed
indecision and vacillation when it comes to the war on terror."
"His comment today is another example of John Kerry trying to exploit the
war on terror for political gain and to contradict his previous statements,"
Schmidt said Thursday.
Campaigning in Washington state, Bush said, "I had a choice to make: to
trust the judgment of a madman or to defend America. Given that choice, I
will defend America every time."
Russia opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq and Hussein’s overthrow. Russia was
a major contractor in Iraq and had diplomatic relations with the country.
