Sheehan v Fonda: Dueling protests

Cindy Sheehan and Hanoi Jane Fond are both leading anti-war protests
that will culminate in demonstrations in Washington, D.C. on Sep.
          24th.

The dueling demonstrations are said to be creating conflicts among
lefties as to which to attend.

          Sheehan hangs-up

Cindy Sheehan seems to think that Neil Conan of NPR is a part of the
right-wing conspiracy. Anyway, she hung up on the left of center Conan
when he began asking her serious questions. To hear the interview
          visit:

          Clift’s exhortations

Eleanor Clift on the show "The McLaughlin Group" called America’s
fighting forces ‘mercenaries.’ Now, an apology is being demanded.

In an Aug. 30 letter Freedom Alliance President Tom Kilgannon asked
Clift to retract her comment and apologize to the armed forces and
          their families.

In his letter Kigannon wrote, "It is a vile and thankless description
of those who are responsible for defending your life and right to free
          expression.

"A professional wordsmith such as yourself should understand that
mercenary troops have no loyalties, no ties and no bonds to any
nation. They fight not for duty, flag or country but for selfish gain.
They have no regard for political ideology and no respect for national
interests. Often, at the first sign of resistance, mercenary troops
          turn and run."

          Bush: promises enforcement

          The

LA Times reports on President Bush’s visit to California and
          Arizona:

"I understand the challenges of enforcing our border," Bush told the
audience at the James L. Brulte Senior Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

"My pledge to the people of California is that the federal government
will work closely with the state government and local government to
provide assets, manpower [and] detention space to do our duty — and
that is to make sure this border of ours is secure."

          Sharpton’s speedy exit

The Rev. Al Sharpton seems to have had his chauffeur speeding from his
visit at Sheehan’s "camp utopia" to make it to the airport. The
Lincoln was reported going 110 mph on Interstate 35 in a 65 mph speed
          zone.

The driver was arrested and Sharpton hoofed it to a nearby hotel. No
report whether he made the plane.

          Frist endorsement

Tennessee, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who has his eyes on the
White House in 2008, got a "pledge of support" from the country music
star Hank Williams, Jr., who has been a vocal supporter of President
Bush over the past six years.
