"It is time for Democrats to stop moaning about John Roberts and John Bolton and start doing something productive--such as figuring out how to win elections." Joan Vennochi said in an editorial in the Boston Globe, Aug. 4

"We have a very short window of opportunity to make real changes in advance of when the real fiscal storm hits, and we're continuing to make things worse instead of better," said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

"Republicans are spending at a rate not seen since Lyndon Johnson's presidency," said Pete Sepp of the National Taxpayers Union.

"The world's global. We can't fight it anymore," Patrick Bauer, Democratic leader of the Indiana House, said after a visit to Japan.

Democrats eating their own

Campaign for America's Future will distribute pictures of missing congressmen on "milk cartons" to more than a half million people on the Internet and to congressional staffers outside Capitol Hill subway stations. The liberal group is accusing the six congressmen of abandoning liberal voting positions. The six "missing" Democrats are Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), Rep. Ruben Hinojosa (D-Texas), Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), and Rep. John Tanner (D-Tenn.) Their votes for bankruptcy legislation, tort legislation, trade legislation and energy legislation are the reason for the liberal group attacking the few Democrats that they have in Congress.

Air America scandal

CNS News reports on liberal struggling Air America being investigated for taking money from a children’s charity:

Investigators for the city of New York are scrutinizing loans and transfers totaling more than $800,000 that went from the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club charity in the city to the liberal Air America Radio network and one of its founders.

The company that now owns Air America blames the Boys & Girls Club charity for alleged "mismanagement and corruption," but has still agreed to reimburse the organization.

Novak walks

Republican pundit Robert Novak walked off of CNN’s set after an exchange with James Carville. The Washington Post reports on the incident that has Novak and CNN apologizing:

Carville and Novak were both trying to speak while they were handicapping the GOP candidacy of Katherine Harris. Novak said the opposition of the Republican establishment in Florida might not be fatal for her.

"Let me just finish, James, please," Novak continued. "I know you hate to hear me, but you have to."

Carville, addressing the camera, said: "He's got to show these right wingers that he's got a backbone, you know. It's why the Wall Street Journal editorial page is watching you. Show 'em that you're tough."

"Well, I think that's bull---- and I hate that," Novak replied. "Just let it go."

As moderator Henry stepped in to ask Carville a question, Novak walked off the set.
